Located on beautiful Chebeague Island, just a 15-minute ferry ride from Cousins Island, Kids’ Place offers high-quality, licensed early childhood education in a truly uniquesetting. For our mainland families, transportation is simple and safe: transportation-certified teachers meet students on Cousins Island by 8:15 a.m., accompany them on the ferry, and drive them the short 1.5 miles to Kids’ Place. At the end of the day, children return with a teacher on the 4 p.m. or 5 p.m. boat. <br/> <br/>What sets us apart is our island itself. Our program uses our extraordinary island home as a classroom—children spend countless hours outdoors exploring, learning, and playing in nature. We’re more than a childcare center; we’re a vital support to working families, a feeder to the Chebeague Island School, and a cornerstone of the year-round island community. <br/> <br/>Our building, designed specifically for early learning, opened in 2010 and includes bright, child-friendly classrooms, outdoor play areas, a quiet nap room, and a safe, inviting environment right next door to the Chebeague Island School. This space also supports our beloved summer programs, welcoming both year-round and seasonal island families. <br/> <br/>Our teaching philosophy blends free play, circle time, and Montessori-inspired activities designed to support age-appropriate growth. Children practice early literacy and math skills—sorting, counting, and beginning sounds—while also developing fine and gross motor skills. Every day includes music, art, outdoor play, and hands-on activities that foster problem-solving, sharing, and purposeful play.
