Please don't ask for a star! Worst place in St Louis area. Bed bugs! They need to fire the administrator and director of nursing! Honestly they need to start over with staff that care about senior adults. They say they are a memory care facility, but honestly staff doesn't know what they are doing. They could not administer medications correctly and miss treated my sister. She kept telling me they didn't like her. I couldn't understand until we moved her how they missed treated her.
So many red flags that I Ignored. Mainly because we didn't think we had other options.
She fell several times they didn't call her husband or daughters.
I could go on and on with issues. Please pass this place by. If you had Similar problems please post it so other families will know to pass Barthaven by.
Glenfield at St Charles was wonderful to Judy! Check them out .

Barathaven is a wonderful place. The staff is personable and available to residents and family members, while remaining professional guides and assistants for a resident's care. The facility is designed with the needs of residents in mind, well-maintained and clean. I'm grateful we found this community for our loved one.

My husband has been at Barathaven Alzheimers Special Care Center for 3.5 years. I have been very pleased with the care and attention he has received. He is a fall risk and in a wheelchair, however he forgets that he cant walk and has to be watched carefully that he doesnt get up and try to walk. With Covid 19 I am not able to physically see him, except for Skype and window visits. He always seems to be happy.
I, myself stayed there for a month after I broke my wrist in 8 places and was unable to take care of myself. I have nothing but good things to say about my care while there. They helped me with showers and daily dressing. I did not stay in the room with my husband as I felt he needed more care than I did or could provide him.

My concern is about Barathaven Alzheimer's Special Care Center, a nursing facility that violated CDC guidelines and put my mother and other residents at risk of Covid-19 due to negligence on the part of the facility. I placed my mother in the Barathaven Alzheimer's Special Care Center located at 1030 Barathaven Blvd, Dardenne Prairie, MO 63368 on July 15, 2020. She was initially placed in quarantine for 14 days before she would be able to join the general population of the facility. It was my understanding that the quarantine room would be locked from the outside with only the staff having access to my mother's room. My mother would still be able to open the door from the inside in case of an emergency. After she was placed in quarantine, I found out that the access to her room was not locked to keep other residents out during the quarantine. Her door was being left open & unlocked and unfortunately two residents entered her room, one, a male, one of which was only in his underwear. There was not any staff in the area nor could any of the staff be located by my mother who left her room to find help. My concern is that those two people could have Covid-19 or be a carrier of it and exposed my mother and others when they were returned to general population or my mother could have exposed them if she is a carrier or had Covid-19. And those two people were returned to general population without any concern of quarantine. This incident was discussed with the administrator of the facility and she did not express any concern regarding Covid-19 exposure. Obviously this facility does not follow the proper CDC protocol for Covid-19. I have removed my mother from this facility hoping she was not exposed to Covid-19 but the other residents that remain are still at risk. Lives are at stake at this facility. There are only LPNs on staff - no RNs. I found staff to be lacking in patience with the residents to the point of being "mean" to residents. Call cords were shortened & broken on purpose so that residents cannot call for help when needed. Staff was usually nowhere to be found especially on the evening/night shifts. The admissions coordinator leads you to believe that your loved one will get the best care possible. And maybe she believes that but it's not true. In the week my mother was there, she was treated extremely poorly by multiple staff. The administrator didn't give the impression that she cared when confronted about the situation. It's not the warm & fuzzy place that you are led to believe it is. If you want your loved one to receive the best of care this is not the place! The care is absolutely non-existent.

I am a former employee of Barathaven. I worked there for about six months a while back and I am now receiving training as a caregiver in another state. I am now realizing through this training the horrors that actually went on at Barathaven. They are not willing to discharge someone if they cannot safely care for them.
They never trained me on HIPAA or resident rights or proper PPE. I am just now learning that this was not normal to have only 5 days of training then being let out on the
floor. The one thing they insisted on was the residents' right to fall because it gave them legal protection. This facility would be closed in any state with better regulations. This facility is an expensive facility, yet they exploit their workers and consistently violate the law. The DON also will gladly pit the nurses aids against one another. This facility is horrible. Please do not be fooled by what they do when you're there. Unless they're a certified CNA, the staff is not trained nearly enough to properly care for your loved one.

My Mother lived at Barathaven for a little over a month before her unexpected death from a heart attack. Everyone we encountered there, and we were there a lot, was very caring and loving. Mom had NO complaints and loved her new "apartment". When she arrived from a rehab center, she was in a wheelchair. With a little encouragement she started using her walker again that night, and never touched the wheelchair again! Barathaven is a lovely place that I would recommend to anyone.

Short staff u.s.a. .I wouldn't put my dog in this place !They do not have enough Dre givers 24 hrs a day .only on day shift maybe .night shift one or two aides always under fire code ! Don't let that admissions coordinator sell you a dream she don't take care of your love one . and the d.o.n and the administrator will run and hide if no help is in the building . omg the nurses is lazy as hell they don't offer a damm thing to help the aides out. Real phony greedy people ! Real talk FAM!
