About Makenzie

I've worked as a DSP (Direct Support Professional) for ages ranging between 40-90. My daily tasks included feeding, changing, and bathing. I also ran programs with them that encouraged creativity, social engagement, and learning comprehension. While taking care of others I always encourage a sense of independence. Our Western culture deems elders as an "inconvenience" to take care of. But that simply isn't the case, as they're human and all humans should be supported and feel loved. Elders also have many things to teach. It's not about making them more like "us" (able bodied people), but about accepting them for who they are in their entirety and learning compassion for all living things.
