About Karen

Hello! My name is Karen. I am a retired school teacher with 18 years of experience in teaching elementary education. I absolutely loved teaching children and experiencing the excitement in seeing them accomplish the goals they set out to achieve. I taught first grade for 13 years and was an intervention teacher for second through fifth grade students where I worked with students individually and in small groups to improve their reading and math skills. Achieving a solid foundation in phonics, sight word recognition fluency, and language comprehension are my teaching goals to ensure children become proficient readers. I believe students learn best when they are taught with strategies that fit their learning style. Additionally, I believe utilizing engaging and hands on teaching methods motivate students to further develop their reading skills. As a tutor, I make learning enjoyable for your child during the summer months!
