About Jessica

For seven years I have had the privilege of being an instructor in the Department of English at the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee, where I earned my MA, and am currently a candidate for my PhD. As a lecturer, I have taught courses in film, television, rhetoric, composition, and art history. All of these courses have been writing intensive, and my main priority as an instructor is student success and engagement. I strive to make my courses and lesson plans as fun as possible, while ensuring that my students meet personal and academic goals along the way. Thanks to my background in media studies, I often use various films, television shows and video games to help my students engage with the content they are learning by teaching them how to love reading and writing through texts they already enjoy. I am also passionate about creating an equitable learning environment and have taught courses with students who have fallen behind state level curricula, as well as ESL students.
