First Steps Family Childcare

5477 Luckpenny Pl, Columbia, MD

Starting at $250/wk

My family day care is a perfect environment to play and learn in. Because of my knowledge and my experience as a teacher, a babysitter, and as a mother, I have been able to transform my home into a high quality daycare. I am licensed by the Maryland State Department of Education (#158491). This is single-family house that is located on the border of Columbia and Ellicott City, near Howard High School, and has easy access to all the main roads in that area.

My family day care is NOT a "basement day care". Every room is designed especially for your little ones. Throughout the house, there are different rooms that have distinct purposes, such as those for playing and for learning. Children take their naps in a quiet bedroom, where they have their own crib or bed. My home is clean and safe with a nice fenced backyard and a large deck. Your child will receive healthy snacks and homemade meals every day.

I provide a preschool program based on the Howard County curriculum, with daily activities focused on early learning skills. I believe the best way to raise a child is with positive encouragement, praise, trust, and respect. My Polish background helps me combine European tradition, discipline, and simplicity with American values and lifestyle (bilingual). Right now, I have an opening for toddlers (2 years old or older).

If you are interested, the best way to contact me is by e-mail at or by phone at (301) 509-5596.

Kids Kingdom Childcare and Learning Center

9900 Washington Blvd North, Laurel, MD

Costimate: $211/wk

Kids Kingdom Child Care and Learning Center values early childhood education as the foundation for lifelong learning. We offer child care services from 6 weeks to 5 years old. We also offer before and after care program for school age kids. We believe that each child is a unique individual and should be viewed, respected and treated as such. As the welfare and well-being of each child is paramount, we strive to provide holistic support of the child's exclusive requirements and interests in a nurturing, familial environment that fosters the child's development across all developmental domains.
We believe that the child develops in an orderly manner by passing through stages of development, which occur in predictable sequential fashion according to his or her physical, social, emotional and cognitive growth. We provide experiences in dramatic play, math, art, science, music, language, pre-reading and pre-writing. These experiences nurture and facilitate growth at each stage of a child's development.
Verbal skills are encouraged through group discussions and through one-on-one conversations between teacher and child and among children. These verbal activities enable children to develop the critical-thinking skills necessary to further learning. One of the teacher's roles in this process is to ask the right questions at the right time to spark the interest and desire to pursue a line of inquiry.
Partnerships with families provide us with invaluable information relating to cultural backgrounds and heritage. Our teachers strive to build the relationships with families based on co-operation and a mutual respect for the reciprocal roles that each play in the lives of the children. Partnerships with families are developed through daily discussions, newsletters and meetings. Moreover, The Kids Kingdom open door policy aims to facilitate an open flow of communication while maintaining confidentiality and respect of the privacy and wishes of each family, resulting in the highest levels of customer service. Partnerships with industry professionals assist staff development and expansion of the curriculum to meet the individual and collective needs of all children. Needs based on cultural identity, additional support education and medical interventions which all require greater individual knowledge and supported cooperative teams, assures all children are facilitated in an inclusive environment as best as possible.

7722 Suffolk Way, Hanover, MD

Costimate: $209/wk

Let's Start Smart (LSS) is targeted toward Stay-at-Home-Moms and moms who are Homeschoolers of toddlers, all of whom would enjoy the availability of part-time preschool classes. The ideal classes would offer the moms a few hours of peace to themselves as well as the camaraderie of other moms! LSS offers part-time preschool classes for children ages 2 - 5. Each class is designed to prepare children for the rigors of kindergarten in a fun and engaging atmosphere. During class time children participate in a fun array of activities including circle time, finger play, read-alouds, arts-and- crafts, phoneme and number awareness and more! Among the many subjects emphasized, children develop skills such as critical thinking, team work, independence and social interaction. The school's course of study utilizes a nationally acclaimed curriculum whose methods have been proven to prepare toddlers for kindergarten. The school's living classroom is host to a number of butterflies and local wildlife. Children delight in their observations and the staff takes every opportunity to expand on the children's' natural curiosity by incorporating science- based philosophies in real time applications.

As an added bonus to the preschool classes for the little ones, staff, parents and children additionally get together weekly for Mommy & Me planned activities. The school's weekly social time is a time for the school community to relax, swap stories, share concerns, encourage each other, make friends and of course, have fun! With the exception of Kindermusic lessons, most play-date activities are appropriate for infants and toddlers, so please feel free to bring along siblings to let them join in the fun! During music lessons the program plans to have an extra pair of hands on site to lend support.

In an effort to preserve the authenticity, quality and relationship among the group members, class sizes are intentionally very small. Interested families are encouraged to reserve a spot for each child for the 2012 - 2013 school year.
