RECALL ALERT: SodaStream Plastic Bottles May Explode

RECALL ALERT: SodaStream Plastic Bottles May Explode

SodaStream issued a voluntary recall for more than 50,000 of its plastic bottles over fears the containers may “burst under pressure,” according to the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission.

The beverage company is retracting 51,000 of its one-liter, blue-tinted dishwasher safe carbonating bottles that were sold in the U.S., and another 7,600 units sold in Canada.

The recalled jugs have a blue cap and blue base, with an expiration date of April 2020.

SodaStream said the recall was brought on after it was determined that a “manufacturing defect” can cause the plastic bottles to explode.

The defective containers were sold between Feb. 2016 and Jan. 2017 at major retailers such as Bed Bath & Beyond, Target, Walmart, and at other stores online including at Amazon.com and Sodastream.com.

“SodaStream is producing millions of carbonation bottles every year and is committed to providing its consumers all around the world with an outstanding record for safety and quality,” SodaStream told BBC.

While no injuries have been reported, the carbonated drink corporation advised consumers to stop using the faulty bottles immediately.

Consumers who purchased the flawed bottle are eligible for a full refund. Visit the SodaStream website to find out if your bottle is part of this recall, and to obtain more information about securing your refund.
