First thing’s first: Stop your nanny search and hire Miss Upeka. We were so lucky to find her to care for our 6-month-old son when I returned to work. I was a nervous wreck leaving my baby and truly, if not for Upeka, I don’t know how I would have done it. I knew my baby was in safe, loving hands in her care. Her list of strengths is so, so long, but I’ll highlight a few. She is so patient and kind. She is always so calm and emotionally self-regulated herself, which models the skill for children and helps them to co-regulate when they have big feelings. She was so open and always implemented my parenting preferences, like no electronics, a Montessori approach (which she has extensive training as a former teacher), wake windows, and baby-led weaning. She is comfortable around and loved our pets—also important. She was always super present with our son, interactively playing, reading, and communicating with him and off of her phone. She was so helpful and reassuring to me as a new mom; I cannot sing her praises enough. I am devastated we are moving and as a result, after 6 months, she will be leaving us. She has become a part of our family and I wish she could be with us forever. You have won the lottery if you are able to secure Miss Upeka for your childcare needs; you will not regret it.
