I worked in a preschool disabled program for three years and assisted children between the ages of three and five. These children had been identified as requiring specialized care because of autism, motor issues, ADHD and behavioral issues. Subsequent to my tenure at the preschool, I worked at a private special needs school for children and young adults. Since my preference is to care for younger children I was placed in a class with students from six to 9 years old. These children had one, or a combination, of the following: Autism, Down's Syndrome, Cerebral Palsy and medically fragile conditions. I enjoy working with all children. However, with special needs children the rewards are greater because their accomplishments are a result of so much work on the part of both the student and teacher.
