About Shelby

An aspiring physician, I currently work part time in research and am applying to medical school. I graduated from NYU with a Bachelors of Fine Arts in 2015 and worked in that space until the pandemic presented an opportunity become a caregiver for a terminally ill family member. Caring for someone through death impacted me profoundly. I learned that I was cut out for the difficult scenes that accompany serious illness, as well as the importance of quality of life. I believe that unconditional care is the core of a great life and am committed to improving access to quality care for LGBTQ+ individuals. I am fortunate to have found meaningful ways to give back to the community as a volunteer home health aide for folks recovering from gender affirmation surgeries and as a Friendly Visitor through SAGE. I am equally as passionate about LGBTQ+ youth and would love to be able to work with LGBTQ+ families as a nanny over the next year as I await med school, which starts in the fall of 2025.
