For 21 years I worked as the Lead Teacher for a preschool program for homeless children. I could not have been happier caring for my little ones and their families until my ailing mother returned to live with me and my family. Mom had been diagnosed with dementia a few years prior and had recently been diagnosed with colon cancer. My husband and I worked tirelessly caring for her needs. Mom had an colostomy bag for her stomach that we changed and cleaned daily, five months after surgery she died of colon cancer. Although it was difficult to say goodbye, I feel blessed to have been given the opportunity to care for my mother as lovingly as she cared for me.
