I have 24 ECE units and over 15 years experience as an early childhood professional. I have long felt passionately about nurturing the self-esteem and creative potential of each child and honoring diversity in the classroom. During the 2010-2011 school year, I worked as a 1-1 behavioral aide in a 3rd grade classroom. I learned a great deal from the child to whom I was assigned and I really enjoyed having the opportunity to assist the head teacher with other students and with various classroom duties. While at Cal State Northridge, I worked with children along the autistic spectrum at their on-site music therapy clinic. During my internship at an adult day health center, I had the opportunity to work with adults ages 21-97 with a wide range of diagnoses, including DD, MS, Schizophrenia, Alzheimer's and Parkinson's. Over the past seven years as a student, music therapist and teacher, I have had the opportunity to work with children and adults with special needs in various settings. I love the process of working with and learning from children and adults and their families. It is essential to me that the work I do involves my heart and soul. I am by nature a very gentle, patient and nurturing person, which I believe makes me well-suited to care for those with special needs. I want to be of service and continue to grow professionally and personally.

I have known Rachel G for nearly 20 years. Rachel is a good friend, AND she has worked for me on several occasions watching my son. Rachel is one of the most compassionate and caring people I know. She has an amazing ability to listen and I would describe her communication style as gentle AND direct - a wonderful (and rare) combination. She is a talented musician and a deeply loving, thoughtful and respectful caregiver. She was the first person to babysit my son when he was a newborn. I was a single mother and needed to resolve some logistical issues around housing and work that required me to leave my little baby for several hours a day when he was only a few weeks old. There is no one I would have trusted more than Rachel. Had we needed extra care when my mother was ill, I would have hired Rachel in a heartbeat. I know a lot of wonderful people, but if I needed to leave a loved one in the care of someone other than myself, Rachel would be at the top of my list. Just last year, she was on the top of my new husband's and my list for watching him as we left the country for our honeymoon. She was not able to for logistical reasons, but again, she was the first person we thought of. She would make any employer proud.
