I have had the opportunity to work with people with disabilities in a variety of ways and have always loved it. In high school I was a peer tutor and volunteered at special needs mutual. I started the Best Buddies program at my high school and spent many summers as a volunteer at MDA (muscular dystrophy) camps. In my professional career I have had many opportunities to work with individuals with special needs. I have worked for a little boy with Autism as an ABA therapist. I spent 3 years in a high school special Ed setting and one year in an elementary school, teaching basic skills, taking care of daily medical and physical needs as well as modifying may programs. I have also nannied a little boy with tetrosomy 9 and hydrocephalus. And I have worked for a family that has 4 children with disabilities (autism and downs). I love working with people with disabilities. They are who I learn the most from. It has been the hardest jobs I've had. But it was been by far my favorite. They see apart of the world that not many people do and they are a forever blessing in my life. They are my friends, and my strength. It makes my day seeing the little victories they strive so hard for.
