We ran a search for caregivers to babysit our two children while we visited Austin from out of town. Keanna responded to the search and while she was at times slow to communicate (texting, care.com messaging), we were impressed with her profile, references and phone interview. We hired her and confirmed again within 2 weeks of our trip. She had asked me to pay outside of care.com so closed our job search on the website. She messaged me over care.com some time later to ask about a notification she received that the job was cancelled, but I never received it because I was signed out of my account (unbeknownst to me). She did have text messages from me and could have also texted to clarify her confusion but she said she couldn’t find our text chain. With a little more organization she might have had my number saved. Instead, she took my lack of response as a cancellation. It came to the day before the wedding and I texted to reconfirm at 2pm. She didn’t respond until the morning of the wedding to let me know she thought I cancelled and that she would be unavailable with no flexibility to cover. This came as a complete surprise to me. Luckily I had a backup sitter on hand in the event that this might happen, since flying in from out of town for an even that our kids couldn’t attend wasn’t something for which we could risk not having coverage. Keanna is likely a wonderful babysitter but her communication and professionalism are the two areas she can improve upon. Unfortunately based on this experience, I wouldn’t recommend her for a family whose plans are highly sensitive or inflexible.
