About Joy

My mother has been an elementary school teacher for 20+ years. I started volunteering in her classroom when I was in middle school. Her passion to teach and help "minds grow and ambitions blossom" was inspiring. In high school I began to tutor for that very reason. I was passionate about school myself and wanted to help others learn and succeed. At that time I also took up babysitting for neighbors and family friends. I was 1st grade camp counselor for 7 straight summers through high school and part of college. This first hand experience having my own class of student campers taught me so many valuable lessons about patience, kindness, and meeting students where they are. I learned how to tailor lessons to each specific students needs in order to guarantee success. When I went on to graduate school I no longer had time to camp council, babysit, or tutor but my passion for teaching young students never faded. I am thrilled to start babysitting and tutoring again!
