About Joy

I started working with children professionally about 25 years ago as a social worker. However, I've been engaging and helping care for children since I was about 7 years old. I am the oldest daughter of 13 children. I helped my mom care for my siblings. I've worked as a preschool/kindergarten teacher for 14 years. In my spare time, I like to dance, cook, watch movies, and spend quality time with my family. I'd describe my personality as fun, adventurous, and joyful. I like working with kids because they are teachable, funny, and help keep me active. I'm very consistent when l'm working with children. I encourage them to step out of their comfort zone and try new things before offering my help. I believe in giving children time to think for a moment and allow them to articulate their thoughts on things they may be experiencing. I believe making mistakes (within reason) is a great way of learning and teaching skills. LEARNING CAN BE FUN! It doesn't have to be boring!
