I had the pleasure of caring for my in-laws for 8 plus years.. in which they "adopted" me and I ended up staying with them to help care for them long after my relationship with their son ended. My father in- law suffers from dementia so a little extra love and patience was all he needed to love me as his daughter... and a whole lot of home cooked meals. I always scheduled his meds daily, handled all their laundry, the house cleaning, spring cleaning... everything.. I would spend hours in the evening going through his coin collection and helping him look up the value.. even though we already did it the night before. My dear mother-in-law, had mobility issues so I would always be her "legs and back" she LOVED to cook so I would bring a stool in the kitchen for her then I would fetch her pans, utensils, ingredients... anything she needed so she felt independent.. she was making her life choices and I was just there to help.
