I was a staff nurse at Children's Rehabilitative Services for 5 years, helping families with specialty clinic appointments and navigating the health care system for children with complex medical conditions. The most important thing to share about my experience there is that I found it easy to love the children I met. My main areas of expertise are epilepsy, cerebral palsy, genetics, ENT, and ophthalmology, though I have exposure to many multi-diagnosis conditions. Another important thing to share about myself is that I became interested in nursing because of my brother who has a major mental illness. I got involved in his medical care when I recognized that my mom was burned out. He and I have always been close even through times of varying lucidity. I like to think I help him find his voice when everyone else thinks they know what's best for him. He also had a stroke when he was 19, so we deal with some mobility issues. I have 3 kids of my own; 2 have attention problems and the third has dyslexia. I have a lot of experience advocating for them in school and helping with homework. While in high school I tutored algebra and geometry, and volunteered at the local center for children and young adults with developmental disabilities. Currently, I officiate high school volleyball. I'm really passionate about sports, both playing and watching. In addition to the 3 kids, I have 3 cats. I like animals of all kinds, and we are planning to get a dog. When I have time to myself, I like catching up on news or with friends on the computer. I am often available at times that aren't on my calendar by request.
