During high school, I spent my summers volunteering at a summer camp for children with disabilities. I worked one-on-one with children for a week at a time, six hours a day. The children had a variety of disabilities including autism, Down syndrome, and cerebral palsy. In addition to my experience at camp, my younger brother has autism, so I have lived most of my life caring for him as well. Now, I am a special education teacher going into my fifth year teaching. I have taught in both mild/ moderate and moderate/severe classroom settings. I am very comfortable working with kids with a wide range of abilities and needs.
