Most of my experience with children has been as a clinical social worker for many years. I have worked in three settings - schools, a community agency and a hospital. Many of the children with whom I have worked have had special needs. I have also served as director of residential life of an academic program for three summers and one summer as the counselor, where many of the adolescents were on the autism spectrum. For the last 6 months, I have assisted in providing care to a baby in foster care who has special needs. I am patient, compassionate and nurturing. I think that all children need encouragement, consistency and support in developing to his or her fullest potential. I am 55 and African-American. I will begin volunteering at the Help Group working with children who have been diagnosed with autism in January, 2015. I promise to provide care and support to your child as if they were my own. Thanks!

We met Valerie at the very beginning of this year. Our daughter was diagnosed with a serious illness and we were really needing support. Valerie was fantastic both in the first month that she worked for us intensively watching our daughter, and in the time since, when we have had less of a need for childcare (our daughter went to daycare). Valerie was extremely patient with and attentive to the needs of our four month old daughter who was often in very difficult moods because of her medication. She was also a great source of comfort and wisdom for us parents at a time when we were dealing a lot. Valerie is an extremely kind, generous, wise, and conscientious person. She has training and experience working with kids of all ages, and her history as a social worker and educator means that she knows an enormous about child development and navigating institutional medical care. She is a wonderful person and would be a fantastic caregiver for the right family.
