I have always had a passion for teaching children, particularly those with special needs. I completed a Bachelor's degree in Elementary Education and Psychology, which included an internship with a guidance counselor. Within my internship, I worked with underachieving students and developed a positive behavioral system to help with classroom behavior and homework completion. After graduating, I served as a preschool teacher in a large child care center. I was responsible for creating lesson plans, behavior modification, and communication with parents. I firmly believe in the power of reading at a young age, and therefore developed a reading incentive program which was a huge success. My true calling in this field came, however, when my nephew was born with Down Syndrome. We have always focused on what he "can" do rather than what he "can't" do. He has proven so many people wrong along the way who have doubted him, or put limits on his capabilities, and is the definition of the word exceptional! I have had the privilege to work with him as well as other children and adults with disabilities for the last five years at Home Care Management as a behavioral technician.
