About Barbara

I am a retired school teacher ( high school English) who also scores tests part time for Pearson, ACT, and ETS. For over eight years I have done part time work for two individuals. The first is a young man who has a form of Asperger's , is very highly functional, graduated from high school in special classes and attended Kirkwood for one year. Several years ago I stayed with him many times while his parents attended sporting events and other things. We formed a great bond with me taking him to fast food places, to the movies, and at times helping him with his studies. Although he was on a lot of medication, he still found it very hard to focus. For the last four years I've taken care of a young man who was deprived of some oxygen at birth. I do not tutor him but am a great companion; we go out for lunch and explore different activities every Wednesday when I see him. Having taught both jr and senior high, I am an excellent tutor.
