While I was growing up my mother ran a daycare out of our house while also homeschooling my sister and myself. I would help out with the daycare starting at a very young age. When I turned 16 I started babysitting for a couple families. It included watching four children and one developmentally disabled woman. The kids grew up and are in college now but I continued working with the disabled woman and her family. Since then I have worked for multiple families with children who are disabled (autism, FOX G1, Rhetts, brain damage) and with a school district in a life skills class. I love working with the disabled because they are always so happy and fun to be around. Working with the disabled is not something everyone can do and it brings me joy that I can.
