I have been a volunteer at New England Disabled Sports for the past two years and previously while in college I volunteered at a nursing home for the cognitively disabled living with HIV/AIDS. I think everyone knows someone who has a loved one living with a disability. My duties are centered around understanding individuals' needs and planning lessons to help them find success in whatever form that may take. The reach of a disability goes beyond the individual, it affects families and friends in positive and rewarding ways. I have had some of my best moments in teaching when one of my students surmounts an obstacle that we have been working towards the whole season. I have always been inspired by people who can accomplish such amazing feats despite their limitations. It is my goal to help as many people as I can find success and meaning in their life while living with disabilities.
