Hello! My name is Alena and I returned to my hometown, Durham, to pursue a Master of Social Work degree at UNC-Chapel Hill after spending six years working in education in rural Mississippi. I am fluent in French, highly proficient in Spanish, and certified to teach both (as well as English to speakers of other languages). After my time in the classroom as a member of Teach For America's 2015 corps, I directed an after-school program that supports students with exceptional academic, behavioral, or emotional needs.
