This past year I worked as a 1 on 1 paraprofessional for a child with special needs. I physically assisted with many needs as well as assisted with academic work and it was something I was very passionate about. Working with this student gave me a different outlook on life and allowed me to realize that caring for children with special needs is something I absolutely love doing. I assisted with needs such as toileting, diaper changes/clothing changes as needed, washing hands, writing, eating and assisting with walking up and down stairs as needed. I also implemented his IEP and assisted with modifying academic work to better suit his needs. I also spent all 4 years of high school interning in the special education classroom, working and caring for the students in the classroom.
