I am a recently graduated from Luther College (Iowa) with a BA in Philosophy and Classical Languages. I focused in Latin, but studied Greek, too. (If interested, I can tutor in Attic/Koine Greek as well). -My teaching experience includes tutoring Latin for four semesters at the college level and serving as the "Intro to Logic" TA for one semester. -I have also spent four summers as a swimming lesson instructor for grade school and middle school students. -In high school, I tutored a Spanish-speaking 3rd grader in English and math.

I hold certification in Latin 7-12, with a FLES extension for 1-6. I am currently pursuing a certification in Students with Disabilities, K-12, expected to be completed in October 2015. I am a graduate from Hunter College 2008 and 2010 for my bachelors and masters degrees respectively. I have been teaching Latin for the past six years in both private and public school. The majority of my experience has been in public school for the last five years. I have had the opportunity to teach grades 7-12 during this time period, as well as from level 1A to College Latin. Last year I was able to help a colleague out and take on an extra level two class while she was out on leave. This experience sparked my desire to teach upper level classes again. The variety that is available at the upper level is wonderful for the students and teacher. While at private school I was able to teach a college course affiliated with St. Johns and it was a wonderful experience. I have also had the the opportunity to become part of the CAWNY committee that creates the Checkpoint A Exam. Tutoring gives me the opportunity to teach all levels.

Latin And Ancient Greek Tutor
I am a longtime student of Classics who loves nothing more than to share my knowledge of Ancient Greek and Latin. For the last eight years, I have worked with students of a wide range of abilities, backgrounds, and ages in many different settings. For four years, I taught introductory and advanced undergraduate courses in Latin, Ancient Greek, and Classical literature at UNC Chapel Hill. I have tutored privately at the high school and undergraduate levels, and in the summer of 2016 I tutored at Lindamood-Bell Learning Processes. There I taught a variety of language skills (pronunciation, reading and listening comprehension, writing, critical thinking) to students of all ages. Though primarily trained in Latin and Greek, I've studied linguistics and several modern languages (Russian, Spanish, French) as well, so I can provide a broad perspective on the ancient languages. I can also help with Classical civilization courses (mythology, history, archaeology, art history).

Writing And Latin Tutor
I'm currently a PhD student in Classical Archaeology at Cornell University, where I have taught a Freshman Writing seminar. I've been reading Latin for five years at college and graduate levels. I have tutored Latin for three years, and Spanish for two. As a tutor, it's most important to me to cater lessons to each students particular learning styles and interests. I believe that everyone has the ability to learn anything and that it's just a matter of finding the right teaching methods for each individual.

Tutor In Italian And Latin
Tutor in Italian and Latin. I am an Italian native speaker and a current PhD student in Classics. I was born and raised in Venice until I came to the US to attend university. I have tutored in these languages for several years and I am able to tutor students of all levels, from complete beginners to those who already have some experience. I am open to tutoring students of any age interested in learning Italian, Latin, or Ancient Greek. I previously graduated summa cum laude with a Bachelor's Degree in Humanities. I studied Italian literature, Latin, and Ancient Greek for several years. My tutoring approach is based both on the level of preparation of the student and his/her particular needs. I make sure that the student has the necessary time to apprehend new concepts and memorize the necessary vocabulary and grammatical structures. I like to incorporate different teaching techniques and use different types of learning materials: grammar charts, vocabulary lists, textbook exercises.

Beginning Latin Teacher
Avg response < 22 hrs
I took Latin during high school, and I loved it! It was my only class that I actually kept organized, which says a lot. I've only just started teaching it (October 2009), but I really enjoy it. It's great to see the students having fun in my class or calling/texting me during the week to help them translate something. I have a book which I get my lessons from, but it is available online for about $20. One big benefit I've noticed from taking Latin is that it has helped me improve my understanding of the English language as well as becoming a gateway language for French, Spanish, Italian, and Portuguese
