Writer/Teacher Available For Tutoring
Hello - I spent 22 years as a professional writer and journalist before deciding to finally become a teacher. I am now in my second school year of teaching a high-risk/high-needs population of students at various facilities in NE Mass. I have passed my state MTEL licensure exams for English/Language Arts, History, and Political Science/Government. I work hard to create lesson plans that are fun, engaging, and filled with useful information. I am also currently attending graduate courses at Gordon College toward a Master of Education degree, and in December expect to be eligible for my Sheltered English Immersion (SEI) Endorsement from the state. As a working teacher I have passed and completed my background and fingerprint checks. Please feel free to contact me with any questions.

Experienced Math Tutor, Ages 10-18
Hello! I am a part-time tutor with prior and current professional tutoring experience. I worked for approximately six months as a tutor with a well-known franchise, tutoring in reading, writing, and math for elementary, middle, and high school students. Since moving from NY to MA, I've been hired by a highly reputable tutoring company based just outside of Harvard Square, and I am also available for hire through them. I've also worked for two months as a Robotics and Engineering Instructor for a youth summer enrichment camp in NY. I graduated from Boston University in May 2017 with a B. S. in Mechanical Engineering and have decided to pursue a career in teaching math and science from there. I was admitted into a Master of Education program at the Woodrow Wilson Academy of Teaching and Learning and look forward to earning my degree and MTEL certification sometime in 2019.

Helping Students Build Bridges
My hope when working with each student is to activate a student's ability to make connections of all kinds. This is particularly important in teaching math, which can appear to many students a plain and tedious set of tasks. Yet when students become aware that each concept can be approached using multiple pathways, math (and other subjects) becomes a wide open world to explore. Three of my six years of experience involved instructing 9th and 10th graders in Algebra and Geometry. During this span, I worked with more than 40 students of a wide variety of ability levels; in a single day I would teach everything from basic arithmetic to competition-style mathematics. I also have experience tutoring 6th and 7th graders through City Year, mainly working on English language arts and middle school science. Additionally, I taught one semester of SAT math and verbal through Kaplan. Finally, I also served for one year as an all-around tutor for 9th and 10th graders with learning disabilities.

Aspiring Elementary Teacher
I am an aspiring teacher with over 10 years of experience working with youth of all ages, from infant to high school, both in babysitting and tutoring environments. This year I worked at a K-8 school in Roxbury as a teaching associate and my main responsibilities included providing one-on-one academic support to 5th and 6th grade students as well as collaborative mentorship with 5th-7th grade students. Now I am enrolled in a teaching residency where I am pursuing a Master's in Education while training to become a teacher in a K-5 school in Roxbury. While I don't have direct experience tutoring for Boston exam schools, I have been an SAT tutor for high school students and I am very familiar with effective test taking strategies. I am also a quick learner and would be more than willing to familiarize myself with the exams before we begin tutoring. My strong areas are math and ELA.
