My younger brother was diagnosed with Asperger's Syndrome at a very young age so I have had a great deal of experience with autism. Growing up with a sibling with special needs truly opened my eyes and made me passionate about working with others with special needs. I held an officer position in Autism Speaks U at the Ohio State University. This provided me with many volunteer opportunities to travel and volunteer to nearby schools for children with varying degrees of autism. I am currently attending the University of Pittsburgh for Occupational Therapy with the intent of specializing in outpatient pediatric therapy. During my observation for the program I worked with Nationwide Children's Hospital and was able to get a great deal of hands on experience with children across the autism spectrum, as well as children with a broad range of other developmental disabilities. Additionally, I have some experience volunteering with Special Olympics Ohio as an athlete escort for those with all levels of disability. My background and passion for caring for children with disabilities help me to feel a personal connection with each individual I work with and have the best interactions possible.
