I have a passion for helping out children, teenagers, and adults with intellectual and developmental disabilities. When I was 13, my older sister was diagnosed with what they thought was bipolar disorder (we later discovered it to be PTSD); this caused a major adjustment for the whole family. I understand personally the challenges of a family with a member who has a mental illness. When I was 16, I started volunteering at my mom's elementary school classroom whenever I could to assist two of her students one who had autism and the other who had Downe syndrome. Then when I joined southern Connecticut state university in 2010, I got involved in Best Buddies- an organization that pairs college students with a community adult who has an intellectual and/or developmental disability. I still am actively involved and now hold a leadership role in this organization. I love it. I am currently studying social work with a focus in youth counseling and developmental psychology. My availability is on my profile. Please let me know on here if you are interested. Thank you!
