I have more than 10 years of progressive experience in human services and special education fields. I continue to demonstrate a commitment to improving the quality of life of individuals receiving services. My experiences includes working (and living) with adults and children with a variety of cognitive and behavioral challenges. For example, I was the Live-In Residential Counselor at a Smart Home in Boulder, Co for nearly two years. This position entailed providing quality Live-In Residential Support for eight adults with various degrees of developmental disabilities. I served as the Primary Care Provider for two of these residents. My duties included, but not limited to, dispensing medications, attending appointments with the residents, integrating personal routines with all of the residents, and providing overnight assistance with these residents. I have developed a long term interest in reading, writing, and more importantly, political and social welfare policies effecting human services agencies and those who utilize these services. Additionally, I am a firm believer of advocating for the rights and interests of these citizens and their direct care providers.
