I just graduated from George Fox University with my Doctor in Physical Therapy. I am currently staying in Medford, OR while preparing from my licensing exam. I'm originally from Grand Rapids, MI and moved out to Oregon when I was accepted at George Fox. I love it out on the west coast so far! I enjoying road biking, rock climbing, running, playing volleyball, searching for waterfalls and going on hikes. My past experience have been working with children at a children's therapy camp at Bay Cliff Health Camp in Michigan. I worked with a wide range of children with disabilities ranging from cerebral palsy, speech impairments, autism and down syndrome. I spent part of my summer this year in Africa serving at a special needs school in Uganda. I worked with children with polio, cerebral palsy and cognitive delays. I have a heart for those with special needs. I also have two nephew, 4 and 7, whom I love dearly. I love helping them catch waves on boogie boards .

I was given the pleasure of getting to know Jensine through a camp. I was her Unit Leader this past summer. Below is a bit about the camp and the type of camp it is as well as the wonderful job that Jensine did well working there. The camp provides a seven week residential therapy camp program for children, between the ages of 3 and 17, with physical disabilities. While at camp, campers receive one or more of the following therapies: occupational, physical, speech, hearing, vision or music. The camp employs nearly 130 staff members. Each summer approximately 170 children come to camp. Campers are divided into five living units where they are placed under the 24-hour care of the counseling staff. Camp counseling is demanding; a high energy level must be maintained over the entire camp session. This summer, Unit I provided care for forty-eight female campers between the ages of six and seventeen. Unit I consisted of nine cabins, housing four to six campers and was staffed with nine cabin counselors and three roving counselors. L. took on the role of cabin counselor for the summer. Jensine was assigned a cabin housing five campers, ages six and seven. Her campers had a range of needs including speech and language weaknesses, physical and occupational therapy needs. Beyond daily scheduling such as keeping up on her campers' therapy and activity schedules, Jensine was tasked with organizing and implementing free time activities for her cabin that helped her campers work on behavior, manners, social skills, therapy carry over and more. Jensine received five days off through the duration of camp and during those days a roving counselor stepped in to care for her cabin. Jensine accepted responsibilities that were assigned to her as a cabin counselor. When asked to complete extra responsibilities she was more than willing. Her artistic eye helped when dealing with more creative tasks (ex. 4th of July, room decorations, and camper awards). Jensine was very thorough with her paperwork and always completed it in a timely manner. If there were ever any question on a situation Jensine would come to her Unit Leader for clarification. She did seem to be hesitant if there was any type of unfortunate news to share. Jensine was very receptive to any advice and input that was given to her. Jensine really seemed to enjoy her girls and that kept her spirits high as well as her campers spirits high throughout camp. Jensine did a wonderful job working with the other staff in the unit. She was well liked and had many friends within the unit. She was always very cheerful and willing to lend an hand whenever needed and this was much appreciated. Jensine had a great relationship with her campers. She was faced with some difficult behaviors at times and handled them with grace. Through and through you could tell she really loved her girls and enjoyed spending time with them. Jensine made it a priority to go and observe her campers therapy sessions regularly. She did an outstanding job working on therapy carryover plans with each of her girls. You could tell that was a major priority with her (Ex.reading with them, manners at meal times and bike riding). On multiple occasions you could find Jensine in the costume room with her campers just having a really great time. She was able to find a way to keep a variety of interests very well entertained. Jensine truly embraced the loving and sisterly sprit of Unit I. She cared for her campers, the other campers in the unit, and the staff as well. She was a great friend to other counselors. Jensine will make an outstanding Physical Therapist one day I have no doubt in my mind. Her work ethic, determination and compassion will be an asset as she pursues her career goals.
