I started my work with special needs in high school after I had a friend struggling with her autism. I've worked with people of all ages. 4-40. Each person is different. My approach is very observation based. First I watch certain behaviors (physical and verbal reactions), get to know what I can through conversation (if the person is verbal), then apply what I observe through careful and respectful suggestions and gentle guidance. Lots of encouragement and positive support. Especially when working through a difficult and/or emotional issue. I aim to be very present with people when I am working with them. Undivided attention. I'm looking for a part time job so that I can maintain that presence.
