Growing up, my brother was on the spectrum for autism, having a more extreme case where conversing and doing day to day tasks was hard for him. I would take care of him when he was unable to perform a daily task such as washing his laundry or cooking meals. I found ways to better communicate with him by honing into his interests such as old Arabic songs, movies from the 80s, phonebooks, and other niche interests. My experience with my brother led me to want to work with children with autism. During my junior year of college, I decided to work at The Faison Center, where I worked alongside incredible children who had wither autism or a behavioral disorder that limited their ability to integrate into the public school education system. I cannot wait to work with your children and help them make life's daily tasks easier and more manageable.
