My mom is a special education teacher and respite provider, and I have been helping her out since I was 10. When I was 14, I got my first independent job working with a non-verbal teenage boy with autism, seizure disorder, behavioral challenges, and blindness. I currently provide respite to another individual with autism (19 yo) who is high-functioning, and also spend time and help care for our long-time family friend (29 yo) who has autism and behavioral challenges. Over the summer I worked with an 18 yo female with autism, seizure disorder, and mobility challenges. Working with individuals with special needs is something I am passionate about, and truly enjoy.
