I have had the privilege of working with several amazing individuals with special challenges. One of the most recent was a 23 yr old who has DiGeorge syndrome. I helped his stay on top of his rigorous medication schedule as well as assisted with daily living skills. He also struggled with emotional regulation and impulsive behavior. I also worked with a 19 yr old who has severe epilepsy. His care was much more hands on, which included some lifting and following protocol during seizures. Another person I helped to care for was a 20 yr old who has cerebral palsy. I handled his respite care, and so I would usually take him to the mall or out to eat in a public setting. I stay in touch with the 23 yrs old and 19 yr old since they have become friends of mine who I care about and I check in with them from time to time, usually through social media.
