The past 4 years, I have been volunteering and working as a camp counselor for adults who have disabilities. Doing so gave me the opportunity to become a Registered Behavior Technician and gain skills and experience using ABA. The reason I am so passionate about working with those who have special needs is because I think there are a lot of things that are not incorporated into the curriculum for students with disabilities. This includes things such as life skills, job skills, and social skills. I think it is extremely important for people with disabilities to feel included, and that they are a valued member within their community. One of my main priorities is to provide as much help and assistance as appropriate. I think it is important to teach skills that will lead to increased independence. Overall, I think friendship and pairing yourself with the individual with special needs is the best way for us to learn from one another. Please feel free to reach out with any questions :)
