My dad had ALS which required around the clock care and total assistance as his condition declined in addition to using lift devices, wheelchairs, etc. Meanwhile we made the most of every moment and would laugh and joke as much as possible to keep his quality of life the best it could be. Alzheimer's or dementia also runs in my family so I grew up spending time with my great grandmother and assisting in the care of my grandmother that lived with my mom while she transitioned through the many stages. I feel it is very important to let them enjoy the moment and support them with positive attitude and love. I have also had a lot of experience with helping care for people that are dying and find that it's a great honor to be able to hold their hand while they take their last breath.
