I have always had a passion for helping children, and got the opportunity to work hands on with kids with special needs when I signed up to work as a sub Para in the NYC DOE nearly 10 years ago. Through subbing, I have worked with kids with ADHD, downs syndrome, emotionally disturbed, severe food allergies, jv diabetes, and most often with kids on the autistic spectrum. Many of my assignments were long term sub positions, where I worked with the same child for periods ranging from 2 months, to the longest lasting nearly 2 years. I am very patient and compassionate for kids with varying learning abilities, and strive to find the learning style that resonates most with that particular child. I try to be a positive presence in their lives, reminding them of all the positive qualities, strengths, and abilities they have.
