I lived with my uncle who was diagnosed as Mildly Mentally Disabled for six months. I assisted with his hygiene and dietary needs by giving him friendly reminders and making the tasks more appealing by joking about them so that he would not feel as though he was being told what to do. In addition, I was a Mother's Helper to my aunt and her four children. One of these children was nonverbal and had clubbed feet and a clubbed palate which hindered his eating and his walking for a very long time. Because of this, I learned the correct angle and the necessary foods to feed him so as to ensure that he was able to receive the nutrients and keep the food down. I also helped bathe and do overall daily play time, getting dressed, naps, etc. with him. Lastly, I was a Teacher's Assistant in the chimes class at my music co-op for a young boy who struggled with comprehension and focus. These are the three main people who led me to major in Special Education, and I have loved my education so far.
