In my first year of college I received the opportunity to work as an aide for children on the autism spectrum. I spent the next four years gaining experience at my job, attaining my TA certification, and earning my bachelors degree in communication disorders. My studies have given me a strong background in many populations with special needs, and my 3+ years at Devereux has given me the hands on experience that has shown me what these healthcare professions entail. I've learned how to advocate for children and their families, and feel a strong urge to always do the best work to ensure my students' success. It is self-motivating to know that your job makes a difference in not only a students' academic learning, but also in how they navigate and live their lives. Aiding a child in growth, and teaching them to express who they truly are are what make the experience so meaningful and fulfilling.
