I am a autism care giver. I grew up with my youngest brother who has autism. I have been a big part of his life and keeping things normal as possible for him. In the mornings I help him get ready for school, get him on and off the bus and spend hours with him after. He has a hard time with change in his routine. When we do change activities, I make sure to keep him positive. So when we change activities he gets a tickle or a treat, and when one of his tantrums doesn't resurface, I make sure there is plenty of positive reinforcement. When it does resurface I don't scold or make a negative consequence because of this, he just simply doesn't get a tickle or a treat. I have a wonderful connection with my younger brother as he has trouble communicating, I know I have to be patient and tend to his needs with special care. Some things we enjoy doing together are making funny faces, playing with toy cars, swimming, tickling, and chasing him around the house playing peek a boo! My younger brother some times has tantrums and has a hard time communicating. Creating this special bond with him has come to my realization that I have the ability to help other kids as well.
