I have worked as a live in nanny for almost 5 years with two families. Three of those years were spent with a set of twins with a seizure disorder whom they thought might also be autistic. I attended speech therapy, occupational therapy, behavioral therapy, and physical therapy throughout the week. The child had a severe speech language delay as well as other developmental delays. I had to dispense meds, 3 different medications 4 times a day, and provide fast acting first aid/CPR to the child when she had a seizure. We also engaged in activities at places that were safe for her, and attended a music class once a week. I also worked with her on her "homework" from the therapists so that she would stay current in what they were teaching her. I babysat my two cousins who were diagnosed with SMA, and passed away at the age of 1 year old. They were not mobile and had problems with their physical development. I had to learn patience and understanding and try to assist to their needs with their limited physical abilities. I learned a lot from the experience and now have such a huge heart for special needs children! I have a lot of experience with kids in general and I am very patient, fun and loving! I love to nurture and be sweet. Special needs children are one of my passions!
