Growing up with a brother with a traumatic brain injury and experiences in working with children with chronic illnesses has given me a deep-rooted sense of helpfulness. I am very attentive and responsive towards the needs of others. Working with children with special needs has been a life-changing experience for me. My experiences have made me passionate about making a difference and helping children overcome the barriers that their condition may present. This summer, I worked full-time as a counselor at a medical camp in North Carolina called Victory Junction, where I was responsible for the care of children with chronic illnesses. I also have volunteered over 500 hours at a similar camp in Florida called Camp Boggy Creek. Both are a part of the Serious Fun network of camps founded by Paul Newman, and serve campers with a variety of diagnoses (such as Cancer, Neurological Disorders, Lung Disease, and Sickle Cell Disease.)
