I graduated from the University of Wisconsin- Madison with a Bachelor's of Science in Human Development and Family Studies. My classes consisted of how people develop from childhood to adulthood and how they behave in all different situations depending on their age, environment, physical and mental condition and upbringing. I shadowed occupational therapists at Central Wisconsin Center and saw how each individual differed in their mental capacity, due to developmental disabilities, and how they needed individualized help. Next, I observed occupational therapists at Oak Park Place in Madison and noticed that elderly people need just as much help as those with developmental disabilities. In each of these settings, I saw the opportunity to assist others and how I could be useful. I recognized the challenge and the potential to help others, it was inspiring to be able to see how occupational therapists can make such a difference in people's lives. I want to become an occupational therapist because I want to help others function. I believe you need to understand people's needs, desires and personality in order to assist them the best you can. I look forward to pursuing this career and being challenged everyday. I love learning different things, meeting new people, and I am driven by success.
