Working with IHSS since I was 18 years old for non-family members. Little to know years down the road, I'd be working IHSS for my son. He's diagnosed with autism. I've learned how to care with so many different disabilities while working for IHSS in my past. Feeding tubes and bathing elderly, helping with feeding and assisting with epilepsy patients, comforting them throughout their episodes, and helping in any way that I can. I was able to get experience with a child with autism before I had my son. She was non-verbal, so was my son until recently. I taught him some sign language so he could communicate with me. When he turned 6, I had my daughter, so I'm now a mother of 2. I'm a very easygoing mother. We talk things through all the time to try and avoid any frustrations that may go into meltdowns. Kids really want to know is answers to why they can't have something or why something is unsafe for them instead of just saying no. Communication is key in every aspect of life.
