I have worked with both children and adults with special needs. I began working with children in group homes, then worked as a paraprofessional in Special Ed. classrooms. In 1996, I got my degree in teaching (Special Ed.). I have worked in both homes and schools with children having severe and multiple disabilities, mild-moderate mental retardation, Down syndrome, physical, and health issues. I love working with special needs children because I believe that everyone can learn. I also believe that these kids are more like their peers than they are different. I love finding ways to communicate with a nonverbal child or helping a child with physical issues find new ways to work or play. Most special needs kids have such a great way of seeing the world, that they are just fun to be with!
