My mother struggled with epilepsy, so me and my family would help assist her needs. There's no cure for epilepsy, but there were medicines out there to help control it. We had to continue giving her hope and help assist her do day-to-day activities that she couldn't do on her own. My younger sister who is now 15 years old is developed mentally slow. Because of her cognitive impairments, it's been difficult for her to not only develop mentally, but also socially and emotionally. We provide a lot of support to her by taking her out and making sure she knows that she's loved and accepted in the community and with her family. We give her books to help encourage her and continue developing her brain to it's best capacity. I don't see them differently, if anything I love them more because of their disabilities. They're unique and a gift to us.
