I have many years of experience working with children with learning challenges both in public school settings and in my own licensed home day care. I have worked as a one on one aid and in a special needs integrated kindergarten as well. I believe in consistency, clear expectations, patience and more patience. I have found when assisting children with ADHD it is important for them to have breaks to move and then get back on track with classwork. The expectations can be achieved but more so when they are given in shorter increments. I also feel a sense of humor and a respect for different learning styles can go a long way. With all children milestones are important but I firmly believe it is not a race but a journey. While I do have had some early childhood education I do not have a degree but bring to the table over 30 years of child care experience, raised three children of my own (two with learning challenges of their own) and bring empathy, non judgement, and insight.
