Special needs is a tricky term. I've been doing work as a caregiver for over 18 years. What I know is that a body is a body. A mind, is a mind. Each have different abilities and preferences. But labels don't really matter to me. I enjoy "harder" cases because I feel it's a better use of my skills. I enjoy clients who's families come at their care with open minds, willing to try out holistic or other alternative approaches, because why not if it doesn't hurt anything? I've had a lot of practice over the years working with quads and paraplegics. They all had different labels as far as what caused their bodies to have that limited function.
